Extra info

Dobrin's death saddens Romania -26.10.2007- Nicolae Dobrin has died at the age of 60. Romanian football is in mourning after former international and FC Arges Pitesti hero Nicolae Dobrin died of complications related to cancer at the age of 60. Aside from a single season at CS Târgoviste in 1981/82, Dobrin dedicated his entire career to his local side, Arges, making his first appearances for the club at the age of 15 and continuing to work for them as a coach and administrator after he retired. He helped the club to lift their only two Romanian titles in 1972 and 1979. Regarded as the most talented Romanian player of his age, he scored six goals in 48 international appearances but suffered two major setbacks in his career. He did not get to play in a FIFA World Cup match - as an unused squad player in all three of Romania's games at the 1970 finals - and was widely believed to have been denied a move to Real Madrid CF in the 1970s by Romanian authorities.   Thousands of football fans attend Dobrin's burial Former football player Nicolae Dobrin was buried on Monday in the "Sfantu Gheorghe" Military Cemetery, the funeral procession being accompanied by hundreds of football fans. The coffin was placed for 30 minutes in the cemetery's chapel where only the close relatives were allowed to pay their last respects. From the chapel the coffin was carried to the final resting place. A group of supporters from FC Arges, consisting of approximately 1,000 people, attended the funeral and shouted slogans like: "Dobrin, dribble once more!", "Gicule, do another feint!". Three gun salvos were fired as the coffin was lowered in the grave. The coffin was covered in the national flag and the flag of FC Arges team, while supporters sang the National Anthem, applauded and shouted for minutes - "Dobrin!, Dobrin!" and "We will always love you". Thousands of people attended on Monday the funerary procession of the former football player Nicolae Dobrin. The procession started at 10.30 PM from the stadium that bears his name. At the end of the religious service, Dobrin's friends (Florin Halagian, Constantin Carstea, Tudor Pendiuc, the Mayor of Pitesti and Adrian Paunescu) held condolence speeches. Nicolae Vacaroiu, the President of the Senate, Florin Georgescu, the former Minister of Finances and Ludovic Orban, the Minister of Transportation, also attended the funeral.
